There are three series of twelve methods apiece named after months: one of surprise methods, one of delight methods, and another of delight methods where the names are the French names for the months. The methods of the first series were first rung in 1976 by a band in Lancashire, all but one of them at Salford. I believe all the methods were devised by Marcus Sherwood, and the first peals were all called by him.

They have been rung many times since, often as a series over the course of a year on the eponymous months. They were described by Rod Pipe in a series of articles in The Ringing World in 1985 and 1986 (1985 pages 636 and 1084; 1986 pages 60, 168, 232, 304, 460, 576, 640, 728, 840, 912, 1020 and 1080).

This web page contains a variety of compositions in these surprise months. Compositions of these methods in this collection also appear in their natural, alphabetic place among the pages of individual surprise methods. They are also all collected on this page for the convenience of bands that may wish to tackle them as a series.
